What Are Intake Vents?

Intake vents are a very important part of your home’s (or any building’s really) ventilation ecosystem. Intake vents are used in and around your home’s roof to help pull cooler, dryer air from the outside into the roof as the warmer wetter air gets expelled through the exhaust vents higher up. These vents are typically located at the lower parts of the roof or under the eaves or soffits of your home. They are at the lowest possible part of your attic and roof space because that is where the cooler air settles. The warmer air naturally rises to the top of the attic area in your roof and as it does, it gets sent out of the exhaust vents and escapes into the atmosphere around the home. As that air leaves, the intake vents below grab the cooler air and help replenish your attic with cooler air. 

Without them, your home would stay much hotter in the summer and your HVAC bills would skyrocket! Without intake vents you could also have other issues like mold, wood rot, mildew, and warping of the wood in your home, which can cause serious structural issues. All in all, they may look humble, but intake vents are ventilation superheroes!
