Drop-in Dampers are for use on round, square, or rectangle flue tiles, flexible or rigid stainless liners, factory-built chimneys, or solid pack chimney liners. They are ideal for installations where a standard top mounting damper is not suitable and can be used with Rain Caps, Top Kits, or Premier Tops. I bought two of the 11″ National Chimney drop in dampers. They are installed in chimney pots by Superior Clay in Utica, Ohio. These dampers are well made, the only issue is the spring, which will stretched out (but still works). I fully expect the stainless steel components to last a lifetime. However, the silicone seal meant to make the damper air-tight when closed, leaves a 1/4″ gap all the way around the interior of the damper. Cold air WILL leak down your chimney if you install these units. I don’t know if soot build-up will eventually seal the gaps, the description for the damper does not say it is supposed to be air-tight.
