I needed to clean and repair gutters on a covered arena on a horse ranch. Arena has 6 feet tall perimeter walls but is open sided above that. Gutter line is 18 feet high with uneven landscaping around it. Roof is ribbed metal. I wanted standoff feet to rest on roof and be locked inbetween ribs. I am not afraid of heights but there is no way that I was going to lean extension ladder on face of gutters and climb to 18 feet. A friend offered his stabalizer that creates 9 inches of standoff. I knew that would not be enough. When I came across this standoff/stabalizer I was pretty certain 19 inches standoff would be enough but checked reviews/videos. Came across video of using bungee straps to bind it to ladder rungs to eliminate side play. I used that method. Since I was resting stabalizer feet on roof and had plywood on uneven ground I noticed that rung hooks were not resting fully on rung of other side of ladder since plywood was flexing. I used thicker plywood “AND” tied paralell rungs together. Overall this worked GREAT with some learning curve.

Excellent; works well on my old Craftsman 250lb aluminum 24 foot ladder. Since I have a shallow pitched roof, the feet of this stabilizer contact my roof on the edges of the pads, but still grip well. Would use caution on a hot July day to make sure they are not digging into heat-softened asphalt shingles. I may flatten the lower edges of these pads to provide more surface area at the contact points. I am adding two more wire-locking pins (bolts, if I can’t find the pins) to the lower of the two steps on this fixture (at 77 years old, I don’t relish the thought of falling 20 feet onto my parking pad).

The product works as advertised. However the supporting downward bars or round exposed edges of the piping can damage your gutters as you lower or move your ladder closer. If the piping could be secured to the front of the rungs it would eliminate this risk.

Roofing Direct shipped my order the day after receiving it. The ladder stabilizer arrived two days later, by FedEx. Excellent service! No shipping charge! Their price was better than Amazon’s and several other suppliers of this particular stabilizer, ignoring potential added shipping or handling charges by other suppliers.
The quality of the subject stabilizer met my expectations — including comparisons to other brands and designs. This stabilizer works well with the 1 1/4″ OD round-rungs of my extension ladder with plenty of room left over to accommodate larger or differently shaped rungs, such “D” ring shaped rungs.
However, a word to the wise for owners of Little Giant ladders (my second ladder) and to Roofing Direct:
The vertical flanges of the stabilizer’s mounting brackets are long enough to allow the attachment/safety pins to be inserted under the rungs of the outer ladder rungs, thereby, securing the stabilizer to the rungs. However, the height of the I-Beam shaped rungs of the inner ladder block the pin holes and prevents this attachment. The brackets easily fit over the slender rungs but can not be secured.
This is significant when extending the inner ladder while
the ladder is in the folded close position and you want to properly attach the stabilizer to the extended inner ladder rungs. Reach for plastic Zip-Ties?
You can open the ladder 180 degrees first, lock it in this position. extend the outer ladder(s), or not, and attach the the stabilizer to the outer ladder rungs, then spin the ladder so the outer rungs face the target structure, land the ladder and stabilizer on target and get to work.
Ladder Direct can decide whether or not to pursue a discussion with the Manufacturer on the worthiness of pursuing a change to the bracket design. As a retired Engineer in both Electrical & Mechanical disciplines, I can envision adding a pair of simple safety clips snapping into the existing bracket holes from the outside and running immediately under the bracket itself to ensure that the stabilizer does not disengage from the ladder.
I heard but have not confirmed that there is a larger L G ladder than my 5-footer, increasing the potential utility of attaching the stabilizer to the inner ladder.

Easy to assemble and attach the stabilizer to the ladder. The difficulty for me involves trying to move the ladder with the attached stabilizer from one location to another. I attached it to a lightweight aluminum extension ladder. When I try to relocate the ladder to a different area of the house the ladder is top heavy because of the stabilizer and becomes very unwieldy. I am not as strong as I was when I was younger and this is certainly part of the problem. I will have to find a way of handling the ladder with the attached stabilizer by trial and error. But once in place and the stabilizer is set down on the roof it secures the ladder in place and I can get on the ladder, clean my gutters, remove nearby debris from the roof and feel as though I am on solid ground.
